Daily Dressing 11.13
Daily Dressing 11.13 by marciakabbott featuring pearl stud earrings
The actual skirt I wore today was a little more bold than this one, but the key to the look are the same... the black and white in the skirt is the key to making it go with the black and white stripes. The blazer and heels dresses it up and tones the print on print look for the office. The tights and moto boots warm it up for a casual look

Daily Dressings 11.11
Daily Dressings 11.11 by marciakabbott featuring strappy leather sandals
I'm very lucky that in Southern CA I can spend my Veterans Day at the beach! I layered a maxi and jean jacket over my black bathing suit, grabbed a graphic tote and spent the day reading A Dance with Dragons

Styling Neutral Dresses for Fall
It's always cool to mix colored pieces in, but the reality is that most of my
layering pieces are neutrals. So instead of using bold pieces, I used a mix of textures and styles in multiple neutrals to create neutral dress outfits that are anything, but boring.
I did accessorize with a red lip, but if like me it’s not something you rock everyday
look, a pop of color from scarf, bag, or jewelry would work just as well (maybe even better)!
1) An LBD Works for an Casual Weekend Look
I started with a drapey Catherine Malandrino dress that has become my go-to LBD for everything from an easy work look to family holiday events. Its super comfortable and super flattering, which makes it the perfect dress to extend to the weekend. This simple chambray tee is lightweight and perfect for layering, but also brings a more casual element that I am looking for. The wedge ankle boots and cable knit hoodie add warmth and more casual cool.
2) A Tweed Blazer and Riding Boots Transition Just About Anything
Am I going to wear my summer romper with this combo? Ok, probably not. But I do believe just about anything else would be "fall-ized" by this combo. Jeans and a tee, leggings, even minis and shorts if you threw on some tights get a cool fall makeover with these two items. I also think the animal print belt adds something special, but understated to the outfit. In fact, I think the mix of tweed and animal print is going to be one of my go to print mixes... I think its the mix of classic school professor and a party print that makes it especially cool.
3) Adding Navy Changes the Tone of Blush
(And my face apparently.) Navy is quickly becoming one of my favorite colors. It goes with everything, it's classic and its a break from the usual black. I also love the way it takes a blush from a springtime color to something autumnal. I took a flowy dress, threw a thin blush blazer layer over it and topped it with my favorite canvas Ralph Lauren blazer with cool harware. I really love the way the blush layer pokes out underneath the top layer.
4) A Formal Dress is Perfect for an Office Party when Paired with a Simple Black Top
This is one of those dresses I have that I LOVE, but I never ever find a way to wear. One, its formal. Two, it shows a lot of cleavage. It was a selling point of the dress when I was 21, but makes it inappropriate for most events I would ever go to now. A black tee is a super simple solution and I like the way this one has enough stretch to help give me some shape in the dress. I threw on matching bracelets on each arm- I like that it almost looks like part of the sleeve on the shirt, but a statement or long necklace would also be a nice touch.

Starting MStyle
I haven't managed to stay dedicated to this blog in any real way, so I think I'm going to change the direction a bit.
In my "time off" from working, I started thinking about things I could do to make my life easier when I get back to real life. By all accounts I don't lack for clothes, but generally speaking if I'm running late, it's because I couldn't figure out what to wear. So I started thinking that it might be useful to start cataloging work outfits, so that I had a database of looks to go through when I was having trouble (or if I'm good, planning Sunday night to take the trouble out of my morning routine).
That being said, I'm going to attempt to use this blog as my personal guide to my own clothes, but also recreate the outfits/options. And hopefully, have some inspiration for each.

How to replace your heels (this will save me a ton)!
If you're like me, you wear through heels all the time. Getting them replaced at by a cobbler is pretty quick and not too expensive (usually $10-15), when you compare it to buying a new pair of shoes. But it can definitely add up!
I found these FabFeet Heel Replacements at Target and thought I'd give them a try. You get 4 pairs for just over $5!
All you need is a pair of pliers to yank out the old ones and a hammer (or if you're lazy like me, the side of the pliers) to pound the new ones in and you're done! Here's pics step by step of my favorite black peep toe pumps...

These probably would have looked better with nude heel tips, but for < $1.50, I can live with black!

Great January Style Tips from laurenconrad.com
Here's a teaser ... you can find the full set of tips here. |
1. Wear a white coat. The fashion doctor is in! We love how a bright coat instantly brightens up a drab cold-weather ensemble. |

I love that the mix of neutrals makes this shoe interesting, but still versatile enough to wear with almost anything. Plus, the ankle strap placed lower on the shoe is slimming!
